FAQs

While we envision GOALL to include as many foreign languages as possible in the future, as for now, we are focusing on Mandarin Chinese.

Popularized by Professor Michael Long at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa nearly four decades ago, TBLT is a language teaching approach that engages learners in real-world activities. TBLT is situated at the heart of communicative language teaching, which emphasizes communicative competence in its instructions by promoting opportunities for meaningful interaction. It contrasts with traditional methods (e.g., sentence translation, repeat-after-me, vocabulary memorization) by placing interaction at its forefront.

Most language learning apps primarily target beginning-level learners. GOALL is designed for post-novice learners who can benefit from task-based language teaching (TBLT) through real-world activities. Our Reading Tutor empowers learners to take ownership of their progress by selecting texts that interest them and receiving adaptive scaffolding from the tutor.

GOALL 2.0 is available as a mobile app only. You can download it on Google Play and App Store.

Not for now, but stay tuned for future announcements!
